Al Shamil is an English-Arabic dictionary


Al Shamil is an English-Arabic dictionary was presented specially to meet the needs of English students at different learning stages, scholars, researchers and the General intellectuals. In which it includes the modern vocabulary and terminology produced in different scientific fields.
It is important to draw the attention of the reader to what is characterized by this dictionary  other than the English-Arabic dictionaries is that the writer target was to bear in mind choosing vocabulary that can be suitable for both the beginner and the professional one.

 He also has used  the Egyptian dialect which can be closer to the meaning of the English word than the classical Arabic language’s  words, as it has been clarified beside each word the classification type (verb / name / attribute .) and also the language from which the word was taken if it has a foreign origin, The meanings were also taken into account according to the order of the types of the conjugated word written before the word. The most common abbreviations in English language were also introduced. He also took care of notation of the most prepositions used in front of certain English verbs in order to make it easier for the reader and the user of the dictionary.

In order to increase the usefulness and benefit of this lexicon, many English phrases and Idiomatic expression have been taken into account like scientific, literary, artistic, medical and religious terms in the dictionary in alphabetical order.

In order to make it easier for the users of the Shamil dictionary, the first three letters of the first word of the page should be taken in the upper left corner of the page, and the first three letters of the last word were written in the upper right corner of the page.

 This is in terms of material of the dictionary and its contents, but in terms of its form It has a beautiful appearance from clear letters to facilitate the burden of research and to avoid the eye strain, and that the writer decide that the book will noe  be large size not to weigh on the hands, And easy to trade.

In the English-Arabic dictionary of Shamil, in its beginning, we find the English abbreviations contained in it and similar dictionaries, such as:

This book also contains table of irregular verbs such as :
     blow / blew / blown
     catch / caught / caught
      lay / laid / laid
    see / saw / seen
Also its contains a list of prepositions like

Cure of 
Ill with 
Jealous of 
Warn of ( against ) 
And also the words that not accompanied with prepositions counter to Arabic language such as To sacrifice as example :He sacrificed his life for his country.
