In today's world, psychiatry is at the forefront of medical and health sciences. It devours many of the resources allocated by the community to all basic medical services, and the costs of disability and absence from work due to psychological and behavioral disorders are among the biggest, This is in addition to the steady increase in the magnitude of the human and material losses resulting from addiction and the deviant behaviors that are almost characteristic of society in developed countries.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has identified psychiatry as a priority for its goal of providing health for all, building and enhancing the health status of individuals and communities alike, Its themes contribute to ensuring the well-being and welfare of each individual as much as it contributes to the development of society as a whole, The importance of these topics is not confined to doctors or health care workers alone, but to the exceed all of these stages and to enter in the life of individuals from birth to death, and it is characterized by the long link between health and behavioral aspects and social conditions and economic conditions Environmental, and above all , The topics of psychiatry facilitate one to reconcile with itself and adapt to the conditions of life in the hours of distress and anguish, and to avoid conflicts and frustration and impotence.

The teaching of medical and health sciences in the national language has been one of the inevitable necessities of the WHO Regional Office for the middle east, which must be supported in order to accommodate the recipient, save teacher and learner time and ensure optimal health care and medical services. And to provide information to those who need it in an easy and understandable language.

The Regional Office has worked hard to broadcast and standardize medical terminology in general and the terminology used in psychiatry in particular by issuing its unified medical version in its fourth expanded and computerized format, which includes nearly one hundred and fifty thousand terms. And by the Arabization  of the tenth revision of the International Classification of Diseases, Which includes a part of the International Classification of Mental Disorders and Behavioral Disorders.

This book ,"Encyclopedia of Psychological Terminology English/Arabic", has collected the psychological terms used in psychology and psychiatry, and some related medical, social and other human sciences. So Arabic translation has been put, and then it explains the meanings of these terms in a simplified and understandable way that makes it accessible to all who read or write, whether it is specialists or non-specialists.
