The Last Problem




Arthur Conan Doyle , an author and a British doctor who creates the legendary Sherlock Holmes character. Doyle was born on May 22, 1859, in Edinburgh, Scotland, in an average income family . He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and was greatly influenced by the personality of his teacher (Joseph Bell), who had an extraordinary ability to conclude. He then moved to London where he set up a clinic there. Unfortunately, it did not work.

After eight years of working in medicine, Arthur thought of writing a story, and actually he wrote his first story, "A Study in Scarlet", and was welcomed by people, encouraging him to write another story. Doyle lived a conflict with his new character, Sherlock Holmes, he thought that the character has earned more fame than himself, so he wanted to kill the character and he actually did. He killed him . But he got objections from his fans and he create an amazing and wonderful idea where he restored Sherlock Holmes character to life again !.

The Sherlock Holmes series is the most famous series for a detective in the history of literature world, with Holmes's extraordinary powers of reasoning, disguise, camouflage and forensics, making him a top-notch consultant on which the London police rely to solve the most complex issues. In this part, you'll see a wonderful new character not less intelligent and witty than Holmes. He is the famous mathematics professor Moretti. Holmes considers the pursuit of Moretti the most difficult case in his career. He has been subjected to three assassination attempts by Moretti and succeeded in kidnapping him in Switzerland!. Let’s talk about quotations of the novel in Artworks .Sherlock Holmes play (1899) is based on several stories of Sherlock Holmes, including the story of “the last problem” where William Gillette played the role of Holmes In turn, this play was quoted as a film twice in 1916 and 1922. The film "The Sleeping Cardinal" (1931) is partly adapted from the stories of "The Empty House" and "The Last Problem".


One of the episodes of the Soviet series "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson" was quoted from the story in 1979 and bore the title "The Deadly Battle." One of the episodes of the British series "Sherlock Holmes" was quoted from the story in 1984 and the actor Jeremy Pratt played the role of Holmes.One of the episodes of the cartoon series "Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century" was quoted from the story in 1999.



"Sherlock Holmes: A Shadow Game" was partially quoted from the story in 2011. Some events of the  third episode of the second season of the series "Sherlock" was titled " Risbach waterfall " has been inspired by of the story.

The inhabitants of the Swiss town of Meringen were grateful to both Conan Doyle and his innovative character, Sherlock Holmes, to make the world hear about their town and its cascades, which contributed to the blossoming of tourism. A museum of Holmes located in a square called Conan Doyle Square.
